MANDARINA DUCK
MANDARINA DUCK
Mandarina Duck is an Italian accessory brand specializing in luggage and other travel items. It was founded in 1977, in Bologna, Italy, by Paolo Trento and Pietro Mannato. Its first collection was a line of travel bags called Utility, and in a short time the brand became known for its playful use of color and its innovative use of plastics, rubber, and other synthetic materials. Mandarina Duck changed hands in 2011, when it was purchased by the Korean fashion retailer E-Land. The company maintains headquarters in Bologna, as well as branches in major European cities.
In addition to luggage for business and pleasure travel, Mandarina Duck has also released signature sunglasses, watches, and even a branded mobile phone. In 2004 the brand entered the fragrance market with the women’s perfume Mandarina Duck, followed by a masculine version two years later. Other Mandarina Duck fragrances are named for the bright colors that often appear in the company’s travel goods. As for the brand’s name and logo: it’s a tribute to the Mandarin duck, an East Asian species of water fowl known for its lifelong mating habits.
