AMOUAGE

Amouage

The Most Valuable Perfume in the World, Amouage has its origins in the Sultanate of Oman. The making of a perfume is never done in a hurry but rather is a culmination of years of patience and hard work— The gold plated embellishments on the beautiful bottles are meticulously afixed by hand. Amouage is based on the core ingredients from Oman - Silver Frankincense, Myrrh and Rock Rose. Today, as in ancient times, the precious resin from the very ordinary looking frankincense tree is harvested carefully by hand, by a select caste of tribal herders. The essence of an incredibly rare variety of rose called the Omani Rock Rose grows and flowers for the briefest period each year on the remote mountains of Oman.

BRIONI

Brioni

Founded in Rome in 1945 by visionary duo Nazareno Fonticoli, a Master Tailor, and his business partner Gaetano Savini, Brioni is recognized as the world’s most prestigious menswear luxury House.
Fonticoli and Savini’s partnership was a marriage of technical skill and creative entrepreneurship that would define Brioni’s as the go-to sartorial destination for the elite. Society’s most prestigious and powerful, from Hollywood icons to heads of state, were queuing up to be dressed by the store’s artisan tailors and the brand became synonymous with status, indicating the lifestyle of a distinguished gentleman.
In 1952, Brioni sealed its reputation as an industry leader by hosting the first ever men’s fashion show. Presented at the opulent Sala Bianca of Palazzo Pitti in Florence, the innovative silhouettes eclipsed the conventional English style which had dominated the industry, transforming Brioni into the reference for Roman tailoring - an effortless ideal of elegance was established, and would become recognized worldwide.
As the brand went from strength to strength, the founders kept at the forefront of innovation by investing in a new form of production. In 1959, with a view to increasing capacity whilst maintaining a sartorial approach, Brioni opened an atelier in Penne, Abruzzo. From here, the company revolutionized high-end tailoring as we know it, by improving production capabilities whilst maintaining the brand’s trademark handmade quality.

EIGHT & BOB

EIGHT & BOB

Albert Fouquet, the son of a Parisian aristocrat, was part of elite French society in the early twentieth century and a perfume connoisseur. In a room on the upper floor of the family chateau, Fouquet created and perfected various essences for his own personal use – aided by Philippe, the family butler. The hand-crafted fragrance spread to the US after being worn by John F Kennedy, who had met Albert while on vacation on the French Riviera in 1937. Captivated by the scent, he wrote Albert upon his return to the States asking for more bottles, requesting that Albert send him eight samples, “and if your production allows, another one for Bob”. He didn’t fill the order until Philippe found some beautiful glass bottles in a Parisian pharmacy that Albert considered suitable for his cologne, and then ordered several boxes decorated with the same pattern as the shirt that JFK was wearing when they met. Finally, he labeled the bottles and boxes with John's amusing request: “EIGHT & BOB”. Albert soon began receiving requests for the cologne from the Hollywood elite. Unfortunately, the success of his cologne would not spread much further due to a tragic automobile accident in 1939. Philippe, the only person who could handle the orders, would only continue with the work for a few months, since the start of World War II forced him to leave his job with the Fouquet family. In the final shipments, Philippe hid the bottles inside books that he carefully cut by hand to prevent the Nazis from seizing the cologne. Decades later, thanks to the family of Philippe the butler, the formula for “EIGHT & BOB” has been completely recovered, along with its carefully crafted production process. Once again, it has become one of the most exclusive colognes, preferred by the world’s most elegant men.

FLORIS

FLORIS

Luxury perfume house Floris knows history. With a story that stretches back almost 300 years, the English fragrance company has served distinguished clientele from Florence Nightingale, who kindly sent a thank-you for the "sweet-smelling nosegays," to Marilyn Monroe, who ordered Rose Geranium from her room at the Beverly Hills Hotel. Inside the shop at 89 Jermyn Street, antique Spanish mahogany cases display the company's storied past and inherited knack for mixing fragrances that stay classic. Here is No. 127, a lavender-citrus scent that was originally blended in 1890 for the Russian Grand Duke, and, 50 years later, remained a favorite of Winston Churchill and Argentinian First Lady Eva Perón. James Bond preferred No. 89, a woody citrus that he wore in Ian Fleming's novels. The brand's celebrity attraction continues today, though family-run Floris remains discreet on names. Founded in 1730 by Juan Floris, his descendants have run the shop for nine generations at the same address. Until the 1960s, each scent was mixed by hand in the cellars beneath 89 Jermyn Street, though fragrances are now made at a modern factory in Devon. Customers to the shop find a Royal Warrant from King George IV framed on the wall, appointing Floris as the Smooth Pointed Comb Maker to His Majesty. Today, the company is the sole perfumer of Queen Elizabeth II. To celebrate her Diamond Jubilee in 2012, Floris launched Royal Arms Diamond Edition, an updated version of the scent created in honor of the Queen's birth in 1926.

HOUBIGANT

HOUBIGANT

As an enthusiastic 23-year-old, Jean Francois Houbigant founded the House of Houbigant in 1775. Before long, its fragrances first sold from this humble shop in Paris found their way to the fine noses of the French aristocracy. Along its unique history, Houbigant fragrances found home in the most interesting (and royal) of places: Marie Antoinette's corsage when taken to the guillotine, the Queen of France when needing some good cheer; Napoleon's campaign chest when he was stretching his conquering hand over Europe; and the Russian Empress Maria Fyodorovna's Christmas shopping list. Houbigant's story is tightly interconnected with the very history of Europe. From kings and queens to ambassadors and even clergymen, all had time to put on a splash of Houbigant fragrance. Nor did these scents leave indifferent the nose of the literary world, with Tolstoy and Guy de Maupassant among Houbigant's enthusiasts. From the little Parisian shop with a flower sign on top to its fame as a royal perfumer, Houbigant built itself as a fragrance powerhouse. The House of Houbigant also placed itself at the forefront of innovation. In 1882, it launched Fougre Royale, introducing the world to fern-like scents, appealing to masculine tastes to this day. In 1912, Quelques Fleurs was born, the world's first multi-floral bouquet. In 1941, it launched Chantilly, still a beloved classic. As of 2014, Houbigant continues its journey as the only fragrance house to have spanned four centuries.

MAISON MARGIELA

MAISON MARGIELA

Maison Martin Margiela embodies the “anti-brand” par excellence. The Belgian designer creates fashion with a revolutionary statement. The color white plays a central role for the designer. The color is reflected both in his studio and in the interior design of his stores, from white shopping bags and packaging materials to the white label of the brand. The designer focuses on his creations, doesn’t give any personal interviews, doesn’t let himself be photographed and does not appear on the catwalk after his shows. His fashion creations are always in the foreground and the designer sends his models onto the runway masked, thus censoring their faces. Fragrant Images The scents immediately conjure in the mind's eye images and impressions... Positive emotions that are associated not only with our own personal history but also with the collective unconscious. Composed by major perfumers such as Jacques Cavallier-Belletrud and Marie Salamagne, the Replica Creations capture fragrant moments that revive our hidden memories. "This challenge was as stimulating as it was interesting for the brand. From the beginning, we thought of certain memories that would evoke these scents. But we had no idea what difficulties, and countless attempts, were waiting for us until we would finally achieve the results desired." - Maison Martin Margiela "Each creation is based on the desire of adding unique and modern elements to commonly known fragrances in order to lend a new and innovative side to each one. Personally, I not particularly like the concept of nostalgia - I prefer rather the concept of rediscovering scents that actually already a part of us all." - Jacques Cavallier-Belletrud.

THOMAS KOSMALA PARIS

THOMAS KOSMALA PARIS

Thomas Kosmala’s eponymously named brand is a truly international one: born in Poland but trained classically in Paris, the perfumer established the seat of his house in London, a cultural and business hub that feeds his restless creativity. Starting with a duo of Middle-Eastern-inspired oud perfumes in 2014, Kosmala has now turned his focus to a classically French collection of fine fragrances that blend a rich European tradition of perfumery with a modern, urban ethos. Provocative photography accompanies the fragrances, conveying the sexy insouciance and je-ne-sais-quoi aesthetic of the scents themselves.

ZAHAROFF

ZAHAROFF

From the shipyards of Odessa and Constantinople to knighthood in England and the Casino in Monaco, through time, the Zaharoff name has been an enigma of self-expression and bold values. Mariana Zaharoff, a talented designer for dignitaries and celebrities, began her career in the basement of her Chicago home in the late 1970s. She quickly was praised for her designs in London, Paris, Milan, and Athens; as well as receiving accolades in the U.S. (Weaving Art Into Fashion – Chicago Tribune), and was nominated twice for the Coty American Fashion Critics’ Awards. Forty-five of her designs are in the permanent collection at the Chicago History Museum. She was also chosen to be the designer of Patti Davis Reagan’s wedding gown. Following in her creative footsteps was her son, George Zaharoff. Beginning with his highly prized fragrance launched in the 1990s and impeccably tailored men’s suits in the 2000s, George Zaharoff developed a passionate and loyal following among consumers.
