Escentric Molecules, playfully known as the "anti-fragrance fragrance brand," was created by renowned perfumer Geza Schoen in 2006. The German brand places its focus on perfumery as the art of chemistry, exploring the qualities of one aroma-molecule in two separate ways. Raised in Germany, Schoen's interest in the fragrance world began at age 13, when he started hoarding men's fragrances in search of the perfect scent. Pursuing this passion, he took his junior perfumers exam at H&R in Paris and then left for London in 2001, where he collaborated with the designers of Boudicca to create the fragrance Wode. He later returned to Germany in 2005. The Escentric Molecules brand is a true revolution in the art of perfumery. The fragrances are presented in pairs: an Escentric fragrance and a Molecule fragrance. The Escentric fragrance is a formula containing 65 percent aroma-molecule and a combination of ingredients to enhance its key qualities. The Molecule fragrance contains the aroma-molecule in its pure form without any additional odorants. The earliest Escentric Molecules fragrances were launched in 2006: Escentric 01 and Molecule 01. This fragrance pair was created around the molecule Iso E Super. Escentric 02 and Molecule 02, focused on the aroma-molecule Ambroxan, were released in 2008. Escentric 03 and Molecule 03 followed these scents in 2010 and were based on the profile of the molecule Vetiveryl Acetate. A decent take on the “not-a-perfume” trend, which arguable was started by Geza and his M line in the first place, but which has since been enhanced by others (and even Geza himself with the Escentric 02 fragrance). A nice, refreshing fragrance that will bore you 30 seconds after you apply it. Recommended if you have never smelled Ambroxan on its own.
